Horse Training

"If everyone is trying to get to the upper levels, who is going to bring along the young horses?"

This was a question I heard asked many years ago.

I love the training process.  I love bringing along young and green horses, starting horses in dressage and over fences, teaching them to come into their own.  I love that moment of understanding when a horse "gets it" for the first time and performs because they are happy.  Continuing their training up through the levels is a bonus.  All ages, genders, and breeds welcome!

Now accepting horses in training.

Offering experienced training in the following disciples:

  • Basic flat work

All lessons include learning all aspects of horsemanship: properly caring for the horse before and after the ride, grooming, tacking and un-tacking.
Dressage - Mariam believes that dressage is the foundation of quality riding in any discipline, and is essential in the training of the horse. Therefore, much emphasis is placed on dressage no matter what discipline is ridden. Mariam has a deep foundation in dressage from growing up in Spain with exposure to classical dressage.

Jumper - Mariam uses her dressage foundation and hunter/jumper background to ensure proper technique and clean rounds over fences.  This is essential, not only to win with clean technical rounds, but for the safety of both the horse and rider.

Lessons are $50 for a 45 minute private lesson, or 75 minute group lesson.  I do not have school horses, but will travel to your location in Burleson or Mansfield, or haul in to Hughes Quarter Horses for a $10 discount in lesson price.  Very limited lesson spots available.

**Please read the section below for more information regarding the lesson program.

Safety for horse and rider is a number one priority!

  • All students, both minors and adults, must wear an ASTM/SEI approved riding helmet at all times while mounted during the lesson.

  • All students must wear a boot with a heel, closed toe, and thin sole. No tennis shoes, hiking boots, slip on shoes, strap on shoes or sandals.

  • All riders must sign a Liability Release form before riding or handling a horse.

  • All lessons will take place at their scheduled time unless notified by the riding instructor.

  • The riding instructor must be notified of all cancellations or time re-arrangements at least the evening prior to the scheduled lesson. This excludes emergencies, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If the student or student’s parent fails to do so, the student may be charged a penalty at the time of the next lesson.

Sales

I will be happy to help you find your equine partner, or train and sell your current horse.

I charge a 10% commission on the final sales price of the horse.

Buying - I will search for your horse based on your experience and needs, and do initial communication with sellers before visiting the horse for a test ride.  I will be available either in person or via phone to consult with the vet at the pre-purchase exam.  Local travel to test ride horses is included.  I will help negotiate the price of the horse, paper transfers, and execute a bill of sale.

Selling - I will write a sales description, take photographs and videos of you horse, and place ads.  (cost of ads must be paid by seller).  Training and boarding rates above apply to horses that are trained and sold, or kept legged up and exercised by me until sold.  I will meet perspective buyers to test ride the horse if the horse is local.  I will help negotiate the sale of the horse, paper transfers, and execute a bill of sale.
