About Mariam

Like many little girls, I had an unexplained love for horses, but unlike some, I never outgrew it! Horses have been a part of my life since age 5, and I have been blessed to have turned that love into a lifestyle.

During my tenure teaching and training, I have had the pleasure of working with many breeds, shapes and sizes of horses and ponies! Having worked with so many different horses, I found I love and welcome working with them all:

The 17 hh Warmblood, the 13 hh Welsh Pony, the versatile American Quarter Horse, the feathered Gypsy Vanner, the Off the Track Thoroughbred, the loud Appaloosa, the flashy Andalusian, the Grade Rescue Horse, and every breed shape or size in-between.

I grew up with mares, stallions, geldings, and as a result all are all treated with the same expectations. You should never be able to tell the difference from a distance!

Good horses are bred; great horses are made... I welcome them all!

The following is my bio, in a nutshell:

I grew up in El Puerto de Santa Maria, Southern Spain, (U.S. Naval Station, Rota, Spain) riding primarily Andalusians, Andalusian crosses and Thoroughbreds. While in Spain I began taking English riding lessons at age 5 and by the time I was in high school I was taking dressage and jumping lessons.  My last two years in Spain I broke and trained horses for a stable.  I worked with all ages from foals to adults, breaking young horses and working with "problem horses."

While living in Spain, my family would go to Florida to visit family in the summers. During these summers I took hunter/jumper lessons with a George Morris trained instructor in Tampa, and competed in hunter shows.

After graduating from high school in Spain, I moved to Florida where I rode as an exercise rider for hunter/jumper stables in Tampa while attending the University of South Florida.  I then moved to Oklahoma and finished my Bachelors of Science degree in zoology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Oklahoma.

Once I moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Metroplex I began taking dressage lessons in Richardson while working a full-time job.

A few years later I became a freelance riding instructor and horse trainer for private individuals, as well as the riding instructor for Circle B Stables, Mansfield, Texas.

In 2005 I became certified with ARIA (American Riding Instructors Association) in Hunt Seat and Equitation.  I went to work for Fieldstone Park in Mansfield, Texas where I was barn manager, head riding instructor, and head trainer.

In 2007 I focused my direction primarily on dressage and jumpers, and left Fieldstone Park to become a freelance instructor and trainer on a part-time basis.  As a freelance trainer, I could diversify into dressage and jumpers.

I currently hold a full-time job and still instruct and train part-time.  My focus in my own riding is dressage, fueling my riding passion from Spain.  I teach both dressage and jump lessons.

I share my barn life with my beloved horses, and my home life with the pups and husband Chris.  Also showing their ongoing support since I was the age of 5, are my parents in New Mexico.
